Latest Developments After More Than 5 Months Since the Incident

After more than five months since the serious fire and explosion on the container ship WAN HAI 503 (flying the Singapore flag) while operating off the southern coast of India, the recovery and damage-handling efforts are being urgently carried out. Multiple international parties have joined forces to ensure the restoration process is conducted safely and efficiently.

Cargo Unloading and Hull Inspection Activities

According to Container News (Nov 11, 2025), cargo unloading and structural inspection of the vessel have been conducted at Jebel Ali (UAE) – where WAN HAI 503 was allowed to berth safely after months of anchoring offshore awaiting approval.
Currently, more than 40% of the affected containers have been discharged, and damage assessment as well as cleanup of the burned areas are being carried out carefully. This helps reduce the risk of chemical leakage and secondary pollution.

International Coordination in Recovery Efforts
